PINDROP: 30 in-house engineers with zero buyouts
Pindrop is a US-based voice security and deepfake detection company that helps enterprises prevent fraud, authenticate customers, and detect AI-generated voice attacks across contact centers and digital interactions. Founded in 2011, Pindrop says it has analyzed 5.3 billion calls and works with 8 of the 10 largest US banks. The company has raised over $333 million, including $100 million in debt financing in 2024.
Issue
Operating in one of the most specialized domains of cybersecurity, voice fraud detection and authentication, Pindrop needed engineers who don’t just write good code but understand the niche deeply and orchestrate complex AI-powered products. That talent isn’t abundant, and it doesn’t come cheap.
Outsourcing covered the gap for a while – until it didn’t. Product development ran through a middleman, IP ownership sat in a grey area, and talent billed at senior rates performed at mid-level. Getting out was harder than imagined: buyout fees turned a simple transition into a negotiation.
The next step was clear: a true in-house team – reporting directly to Pindrop, working under Pindrop’s standards, fully owned by the company. The market had what they needed: outstanding technical expertise, engineers adapted to American corporate culture, and a Senior Director of Engineering in Kyiv who knew it firsthand.
But Pindrop had no local presence, no operational foundation, no recruitment capability in Ukraine. They needed a single partner who could provide the infrastructure – and Alcor was it.
Solution:
The partnership started with legal advisory. Alcor recommended B2B engagement as the right model for Ukraine – faster to set up, lower in labor costs, and free from the compliance complexity of full employment – so Pindrop could move immediately without months of legal groundwork.
Alcor assigned 11 researchers and recruiters to source from its 325K-candidate pool and curated donor companies, competing with LinkedIn applicants and internal Pindrop referrals. Every shortlist was pre-screened against technical and cultural requirements – genuine fits only, no CV noise. The fastest senior roles – Software Engineer and Cloud Engineer – closed in 6 weeks, with an overall average of 8–10 weeks.
Alcor took ownership of every admin layer, backed by a dedicated Ops Manager throughout the entire expansion. Pindrop’s leadership never spent a day on operational management or compliance coordination.
As the team scaled, Alcor also supported the transfer of several existing engineers from Pindrop’s previous outsourcing provider. Pindrop gained complete ownership of their team without losing a sprint, a deadline, or a single engineer.
