PX is a New York-based customer acquisition platform that brings transparency to a market that runs on guesswork. Founded in 2010, it gives marketers a single place to manage every lead source – their own partners or new ones from a marketplace of 600+ vetted vendors – with source-level visibility and pricing set from actual performance data. The platform handles over 8 million consumer enquiries a month across 30+ industries, from home services and solar to financial services and insurance, and is SOC 2 certified and HIPAA compliant.

Issue

In 2020, PX had 13 engineers in Ukraine working on its product through an outsourcing provider. On paper, they were someone else’s – hired by an outsourcing provider, contracted to it, billed through it. PX wanted them on its own account.

The team had to be moved across, each specialist onto a contracting structure of their own – and the engineers building the product were the same people on either side of the change.

Where this was going made it harder. PX’s R&D organisation wouldn’t stay in one country – over the next six years it reached Ukraine, Poland, Czechia, Turkey, Spain, and Albania, with specialists relocating between them and each move changing a contractor’s legal structure and tax position. And PX had no local infrastructure anywhere: no HR, no finance, no counsel, no office manager. Whoever took this on had to be all of it, in all of them.

Solution:

PX partnered with Alcor to move the existing team first, then grow it. 13 specialists transferred in about 3 weeks – each one engaged on a B2B contract in their own country instead of through a third party.

Hiring took over where the transfer left off – some specialists came through Alcor’s recruiters, others through PX’s own sourcing, with Alcor administering everyone either way. Most of the roles Alcor was asked to hire were senior: .NET tech leads, senior C++ developers, DevOps and system administration, QA and QA automation, Angular frontend and UI engineers, operations and automation specialists.

Underneath that, the contracts were never the same twice. Alcor maintains country-specific templates with DPAs across six jurisdictions and builds worker classification into the structure of the account rather than handling it case by case. When specialists moved countries, the paperwork moved with them – Ukraine to Poland, Poland to Albania, Ukraine to Spain and Czechia, each a new local structure, contract and tax position, at no cost or process change to PX.

RESULTS:

Out of outsourcing, into ownership
13 specialists moved off an outsourcing provider in 3 weeks, each onto a B2B contract in their own country. The team has more than doubled since, to 28 across six jurisdictions – some hired by Alcor, some by PX, all administered by Alcor.
8 functions, 1 invoice
In each country, Alcor stands in for a legal entity, payroll provider, payment rail, employment lawyer, IT procurement function, asset register, benefits administrator and office manager. PX gets one bill a month.
Contractor of Record, country by country
A COR model with Romania and Bulgaria ready when PX needs them. Country-specific templates with DPAs, PX’s own Contractor Handbook reviewed against Polish and Ukrainian law, and worker classification built into the structure of the account rather than checked role by role.
A hire they asked us to repeat
An Operations & Automation Specialist placed in 7 weeks. PX came back asking for the same profile again – and Alcor filled that one too.
Full transparency on equipment costs
When PX’s CFO questioned equipment pricing, Alcor audited the whole fleet, set a hardware policy with pre-approved prices and introduced buy-back for departing specialists. PX got clarity over the spend; procurement stayed on Alcor’s side.
A team built to last
Six years on, the people who started this team are still building on it. Most R&D partnerships don’t last that long. These engineers have.
