insightsoftware is a Raleigh-based enterprise software company that helps finance, technology, and HR leaders move from data to decisions. Formed in 2018 and built by bringing together 31 technology companies, it now serves more than 34,000 customers worldwide. Its portfolio spans financial planning and reporting, enterprise performance management, equity management, data connectivity, analytics, and AI across three brands: Lineos for the office of the CFO, Simba for data and embedded analytics, and Certent for equity management.

Issue

insightsoftware’s Ukrainian engineering team began life as someone else’s outsourced one. That was standard practice at the time: pay for the work, own no team, no IP, no control. Getting out was not free either – buying the team out of the contract reached hundreds of thousands of dollars, a painful sum for a growing tech company.

Taking them in-house meant establishing a legal presence in Ukraine: registering an entity, opening bank accounts, standing up payroll and HR, leasing and equipping an office. That is months of legal and admin work before a single engineer changes status, and a permanent local overhead after it. For a business running its engineering leadership out of North America, it meant funding a second organization to support the HQ team.

The company it came from had already proved the other route worked. Certent, which insightsoftware acquired in 2021, made the move off outsourcing with Alcor in 2017 – and arrived inside insightsoftware with its Ukrainian engineering team fully integrated and running: no entity, no local admin chaos, just one partner managing contracts, payroll, compliance, and local operations under one infrastructure.

That set the standard for insightsoftware, and it is where a partnership now in its ninth year began.

Solution

Alcor built the local setup, then transferred and onboarded the existing engineering team in under a month. Engineers were engaged under a Contractor of Record model on B2B contracts, registered locally and paid on a single monthly cycle. insightsoftware never had to open an entity in Ukraine or build a local admin function, and the team became fully its own.

Alcor’s recruiters built most of the scaled team role by role: .NET and Angular Full-Stack Engineers, Manual and Automation QA, Data Integration and Data Quality Analysts, Scrum Masters, and technical support in Romania. They approached candidates directly – many headhunted out of Eastern Europe’s engineering services companies and chosen for relevant experience in fintech and data. Technical interviews and hiring decisions stayed fully with insightsoftware’s leadership.

Behind the team sits the admin layer built and run by Alcor: contracts and DPAs drafted country by country, onboarding, benefits, worker classification that holds under local law. When engineers relocated, Alcor re-registered them as sole traders in Poland, Czechia, and Slovakia, arranged local accounting, and kept payments going out on the same monthly cycle as before. The admin layer absorbed the change. insightsoftware kept its engineers. No gap in anyone’s contract, and no exposure in the new jurisdictions.

RESULTS:

21 engineers, fully owned
The team moved off an outsourcing provider onto direct B2B contracts, each engineer reporting to insightsoftware’s leadership. IP and confidentiality clauses mirror the client agreement down to every individual contract. No legal entity, no vendor lock-in, no buyouts to exit.
Two acquisitions, no gap in a single contract
Through both acquisitions, Alcor redrafted every agreement and kept payroll, payments, and benefits running on schedule. Jurisdiction-specific contracts, DPAs, and mirrored IP clauses cleared insightsoftware’s enterprise legal bar. Neither acquirer had to rebuild an employment structure.
5.6 years of average tenure
12 of the 21 engineers have been on the product for more than five years, and the longest tenure runs past ten. The team came through both acquisitions intact, so each new owner inherited engineers already shipping. No handover, no backfill, no lost product context.
Senior roles closed in 3–4 weeks
Alcor’s recruiters approached every candidate directly and ran HR screens with in-depth technical questions before shortlisting, so hiring managers saw only qualified candidates. A senior full-stack engineer signed 21 days after the search opened, and a Senior QA Automation Engineer closed in 22. One QA search produced two engineers who accepted on the same day, 16 days in.
Niche talent the market doesn’t stock
Financial-reporting support needs engineers who have fielded close-cycle questions before, and that pool is small. Alcor found it concentrated in Bucharest, much of it inside Oracle. Two of its senior support engineers moved to insightsoftware the same year.
One operational layer, one invoice
The Ukrainian office leased and running, laptops bought and delivered, health insurance administered – all through Alcor, on a single monthly cycle that one person on the client side approves. A dedicated Customer Operations Manager resolves issues as they come up. No local HR or finance function to staff, and no vendor set to manage.
