Briq is a California-based AI automation platform built for the construction industry. Its AutoPilot and CoPilot products automate financial and operational workflows, including budgeting, forecasting, reporting, accounts payable, and payroll, for hundreds of general and specialty contractors, primarily across North America. Briq has announced at least $51 million in funding and was valued at $150 million in its January 2024 funding round.

Issue

Briq had decided to expand into LATAM. The market made sense – skilled engineers, timezone alignment, meaningful cost efficiency. Getting there compliantly did not.

No legal entity in Mexico. No local payroll. No established way to hire contractors without risking misclassification under Mexican labor law. For an AI company focused on building its own automation platform, spending runway untangling foreign labor law wasn’t the plan.

The problem wasn’t finding developers. It was finding a way to hire them that wouldn’t create legal exposure the moment the first contract was signed.

Briq needed one partner who could handle the compliance mechanics of contractor employment in Mexico from day one – not a recruiter who’d hand off the paperwork, and not a payroll platform that would leave sourcing to Briq.

Solution

Briq had already found where it needed to go. Alcor was the how.

Alcor already had established, compliant infrastructure running in Mexico – ready for Briq to plug into immediately. Entity setup and local presence were already handled, so that Briq could move straight to hiring.

Every hire was structured as a compliant B2B contractor engagement, with agreements reviewed to close off misclassification risk under Mexican labor law – the exact exposure Briq couldn’t afford. The compliance work was done before Briq’s name was on a single contract.

Alcor’s recruiters moved fast without cutting corners – closing 5 Automation Java Developer roles in under 6 weeks each, then filling a Middle Support Engineer role – backfilling it at no cost to Briq when the first hire resigned.

Instead of coordinating recruiters, a separate payroll provider, legal counsel, and an equipment vendor, Briq works with one accountable partner for all of these – freeing leadership to stay focused on growing the business rather than managing vendors.

RESULTS:

Compliant B2B structure
Alcor structured every engineer’s B2B contract to reduce misclassification risk under Mexican labor law – letting Briq scale its team without registering a local entity.
7 Hires, 5.4 weeks each, no delay
Alcor closed all 5 Automation Java Developer and 2 Middle Support Engineer roles within around 39 days on average, 4 of whom still work successfully with the client.
Top-tier talent for serious impact
Alcor’s pipeline surfaced top-10% market engineers, and the client praised resume quality across the board. Those engineers are now contributing to the development and launch of Otto, one of the company’s strategic product initiatives.
Free backfill, zero disruption
When the Middle Support Engineer hire resigned 4 days into the role, Alcor absorbed the cost and placed a qualified replacement – protecting Briq’s timeline and budget.
Fully equipped, ready to build
Alcor sourced and procured laptops for Briq’s Mexico team through a trusted local equipment provider, alongside payroll and contractor management – so engineers could focus on the work, not IT logistics.
An EVP built to win the talent
Alcor helped Briq design a competitive Employee Value Proposition for the Mexican market – covering PTO, sick leave, holiday benefits, and salary benchmarks – positioning Briq as an attractive employer in a competitive market.
